    VICTIM LAW PRACTICE

As a victim of crime, you have rights in both the criminal and civil courts. It is important re victims become aware of these rights as early as practically possible to protect them.Stephanie Morris is a fierce victim’s advocate who helps victims re-build their lives by protecting victims rights and fighting for indemnification, accountability, apologies, and answers for many victims.
Civil claims give victims control and provide another opportunity for justice outside the criminal justice arena. Many times victims can recover from financial losses not coverable under criminal restitution.Even if the offender is not convicted of the crime, the victim may have a civil remedy available (think O.J. Simpson). Civil claims also act as a deterrence if offenders know they will be held financially liable for their criminal acts or failures to protect others from criminal acts.
As a victim of crime you have rights in the criminal case that must be protected by the court. As a victim you have a right to be heard, to be present at all proceedings, to be informed about the process and investigation, a right to recover from your losses, and many more rights.
As a victim of crime you may be suffering from physical injury, mental health issues, financial loss or all of the above. You may be able to recover from your losses by filing a civil claim.
Stephanie Morris will work to create a plan of action for your particular situation to protect you and to seek the justice you deserve. If you or someone you know has suffered from physical or emotional harm, property damage, or economic loss due to a crime, give us a call!

    CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE

Every nine minutes, a child is sexually assaulted in the United States. Ninety-three percent of child sex abuse victims know the perpetrator. Approximately one in every three to four women and one in five to six men are sexually abused as children. On average, children become victims at seven and a half years old and the abuse will continue for an average of two years. In total, eighty- six percent of child sex abuse victims do not report the abuse. Those who do report are usually well into their adulthood, as the average age is 52 years old. Yet only ten percent of victims report their abuse to the authorities.
In 2018 came a watershed moment in exposing the concealment, complexity and prevalence of child sexual abuse in this country and educating the nation as to the ubiquitous institutional concealment of powerful predators. The information provided by victims who shared details of the abuse they survived, coupled with the factual determinations detailed in grand jury reports, facilitated a swift movement in both state legislatures and judicial authorities to recognize child sexual abuse victims as a uniquely vulnerable category of plaintiffs in that they confront challenges in identifying both their injuries and all of the defendants responsible for those injuries. Providing this class of plaintiffs with responsive legal remedies equips victims with means to heal, while ending systemic abuse by holding accountable both the abusers and the institutions that allowed them to continue their crimes.
Victims of child sexual abuse face a multitude of emotional and psychological injuries as a result. It is possible for these victims to receive compensation for psychiatric and psychological treatments they need to recover.

    SEXUAL HARASSMENT

Sexual harassment is a type of sex discrimination and includes requests for sexual favors, unwelcome sexual advances, and other physical or verbal conduct of sexual nature. This can interfere with a person’s employment as well as their work performance due to this hostile work environment.

If you believe you have been sexually harassed at your place of work, you may be able to take legal action. Get in touch with our firm today so we can discuss your legal options.
